Hector Fletcher 2011 is coming soon

The Hector Fletcher road races are PACC's main winter road racing event, and this year's edition is coming up on Sunday 19 June.

Click for the official event flyer

The major sponsor of the event is Parkwood Golden Grove

We also have prizes contributed from Corsa Cycle Centre, Biomechanics Cycles and Repairs, Select Physiotherapy and The Sufferfest

The day will be in the same format as the past couple of years, based at Mt Pleasant Oval.

Morning events: Junior A-E grade scratch races, plus a handicap race for 30+ men and all women who wish to enter - this year, the handicap race will be known as the John Lockwood Handicap

Afternoon events: Open A-D grade scratch races

There will be KOMs in all Open scratch races, and prime sprints for Open A-C grade. For course map click here

Putting on an event of this size require help, we currently need people to fill the following roles:

- 3 x traffic marshalls (accredited) - Jeremy Smith, Alasdair McLellan (AM)+Gemma Kernick (PM), Lee-Anne Fleming (AM)+ Kevin Hannaford (PM)
- 1 x corner marshall (accreditation not required) - Chris Mack
- 1 x KOM judge - Dale Bennett
- 2 x people to put out signs - Tracey Pearce
- 3 x Lead car - Alex Bates, Jeff Searson, ???
- 2 x Sign on - Carly Light, Cate Searson
- 1 x Sag wagon - Kellie Hards

If you are able to help out with any of these jobs, can you please let me know as soon as you can. It really helps if I can know early, so that I don't need to stress out and chase people in the week leading up to the event!

Even if you are racing in the morning, then you can still be a corner marshall in the afternoon and vice versa. Last year Ben P was a corner marshall in the morning and still managed to win B-grade in the afternoon! (perhaps it was all the good karma!) Jobs like helping to put out the signs can also be done while still racing during the day.

Online entries are now open via the Cycling Australia website - CLICK HERE.

Hope to see you there!

Is it possible to race both the 30+ handicap and the open graded scratch race? Is this allowed?
Two wheels good, four wheels bad. In a pinch, three will do...

Alasdair -- It hasn't been allowed the past couple of years but I can't see why not. You would only get a short break in between races though. Let me just confirm a few details and I'll give you a definite answer.

Sign-on is now covered, as is KOM judge

Still looking for volunteers to help with sign placement and corner marshalling! You know you want to!

The first post has been updated with a link to the event flyer and sponsor details.

We're still looking for at least two more corner marshalls, one of whom doesn't require accreditation (will be directing traffic but not stopping it). Let me know ASAP if you can help! Remember these jobs can be filled by two people, one racing in the morning and one in the afternoon.

If anyone can help with putting out signs in the morning and picking them up that would also be greatly appreciated - its usually the same people every time so it would be great to have some more help with this. You can do this job and still race!

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered so far, and don't forget to register if you are planning on racing! See you there!

I think I'm going to opt for the graded scratch rather than the handicap - so I'm available early. And accredited.

Thanks Alasdair and Tracey, much appreciated.

Tracey are you an accredited marshall? If so, since you are doing the morning race, perhaps you and Alasdair could "share" a marshalling spot near the start/finish line. (i.e. Alasdair can do it for the morning races, Tracey can do it for the afternoon races)

No worries trap - unfortunately I think we'll run into trouble if you start throwing things at cars! It would be great if you could help set up signs, I'll put you down for that.
